Two teams entered the Rotary Club Youth
Speaks Competition 2011. The Brighton & Hove round was held
last night at the Hilton Metropole Hotel Brighton and our teams
competed against four other teams from Bellerbys College, Brighton
and Hove High School for Girls and Dorothy Stringer. Our Team
1, Harry Bainbridge, Ella O'Neil and Tom Bailey won the
competition with Harry being singled out for special praise and
a personal prize for best performance in the competition. Our
Team 2, Tenzin Bowe, Viv Yang and Jack Spencer came third in
the competition and again our speaker Tenzin was singled out
for the quality of his speech. The judges were the deputy Mayor
of Brighton & Hove, the editor of the Speaking newspaper
and a barrister from Westgate Chambers. Team 1 are now through
to the next round and are looking forward to that event in the coming
year. For this year BHASVIC keeps the Rotary Club City of Brighton & Hove
Youth Speaks Competition shield and cup.
