Equality and Diversity

The Equality Act 2010 requires us to:

Meet the requirements of the Single Equality Duty by :

  • working to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advancing equality of opportunity for example by actively involving disabled students
  • fostering good relations for example by encouraging good relations between people of different races

Inclusivity Team
The Inclusivity Team meet once every term to review BHASVIC’s Policies and Curriculum Areas. To join the Inclusivity Team or to share any comments on discrimination issues e.g. harassment / bullying please contact BHASVIC’s Equality & Diversity Officer - Nicky Deakin by email n.deakin@bhasvic.ac.uk or 01273 859816.

How we will deal with Complaints

BHASVIC values diversity and is committed to fair treatment for all students and staff regardless of race, disability, sexuality, age or belief. We are committed to meeting our legal obligations to promote equality.

If you feel that the College has let you down in any way, please let us know. It is important to us that we understand what has gone wrong and how we can put it right. BHASVIC has procedures in place to consider complaints or concerns. You can obtain a copy of the College’s Complaints Policy from this website at www.bhasvic.ac.uk/policies.htm, the College Intranet (VLE) or from Reception.

Outcomes of complaints are monitored by the College to ensure compliance with equality legislation (www.equalityhumanrights.com). Ultimately, should the Commission for Equality and Human Rights consider specific equality duties have not be met under the Equality Acts, then a Compliance Notice may be served. Should a Compliance Notice not be met by an organisation within 3 months, then court proceedings will commence to ensure equality compliance.

BHASVIC aims to resolve all complaints as swiftly and as informally as possible. Our hope is that your complaint or dissatisfaction can be resolved as quickly as possible via the College’s complaints procedure.
