Head of of Modern Foreign Languages at BHASVIC, Celine Devedec, said: “The Modern Languages department is growing fast and we have an increasing number of students doing a full A level and wanting to study languages at university which bucks the national trend. 225 students are studying A level languages at BHASVIC in September 2012, over 20% of the cohort.  Together with Maths and Science, we have seen the greatest increase in applications and expect this to continue for 2013, our centenary year. The department has been developing resources in the language centre in particular that excite, motivate and inspire students. Our success is due to a mixture of enthusiasm from both students and staff and a collaboration which allows us all to build on what has been successful, continually evaluating together while keeping it all fun.”

BHASVIC students achieved outstanding results in French, German and Spanish in 2012 with French A level overall 97% pass rate with 5 students achieving A* grade; German A level overall 100% pass rate with 3 students achieving A* grade; Spanish A level overall 100% pass rate with 4 students achieving A* grade.

A level languages students really appreciate their teachers. Tom Veness says: “I want to say a massive thank you to the teachers at BHASVIC for helping me to get not only my A* in French but also for the all round support which helped me get an A* in Spanish too. Also, I got A* 100% for my Extended Project dissertation on the Algerian war - to my surprise! I was extra pleased to see that I got 137/140 for the writing exam which is definitely owed to both yours and Christine's excellent preparation as I've felt so prepared from the start. I got into Bath (my first choice) so I'll be studying Modern Languages and European Studies (French and Spanish) for the next 4 years which is what I've wanted to do for such a long time. Definitely don't change the way you do things!”
