Tennis Development
This course is available to all students and gives them an opportunity to develop not only their individual practical tennis performance, but their coaching and organisational skills. All abilities are welcome, though you must have a willingness to challenge yourself in terms of your own skill level and your ability to lead others. Equipment will be provided, though you must attend in appropriate kit. Rackets are available, though you may wish to use your own.

There will be 3 phases to the course. Initially, time will be spent focussing on improving and refining individual performance both as a singles and doubles player. Techniques and tactical strategies will be developed through the practical sessions.

The 2nd phase will be devoted to developing the students’ role as a coach – looking at communication skills, organisation and knowledge. You will be encouraged to evaluate your ability to coach both peers and young children. We are hoping that during these sessions, the Tennis Leaders course qualification can be delivered (a nationally recognised basic tennis coaching qualification)

Finally, students will also complete the Tennis Competition Organiser course. This will provide them with the basic skills to organise and run a tennis event and will be delivered by the county Tennis Coordinator.

The 3 qualifications are enriching in a practical sense, but also provide students with an excellent list of attributes for their CVs.

The course is evolving, and it is hoped that we develop the course to integrate working with some local young children – either organising an event or coaching them ….. or both. Our links with the County coordinator and local coaches and schools should provide these amazing opportunities.

The course represents 2 lessons a week and is run in conjunction with the Level 2 Coaching Studies course (1 hour a week).
