BHASVIC Student Union is affiliated to the National Union
of Students. Therefore, it differs from a school council
or senior prefect team as this organisation is recognised
on a national and international basis. Through this affiliation
it allows the BHASVIC Student Body to really get involved
in both internal and external activities and campaigns, such
as the Fight Against the Introduction of Top Up Fees and
the NUS campaigns on the Environment and student equality.
NUS regional officers are also there for each Student Union
so that we can contact them to help us to make our events
as effective and worthwhile as possible.
This affiliation also means that Student Union officers
in BHASVIC will attend training days, this year the training
for the South East took place in Weymouth, and this allows
the officers to gain some real knowledge and guidance on
how to run a successful union that represents its members.
This training is supported throughout the year by other NUS
conferences and events that officers can attend and much
correspondence between the SU and NUS to keep us heading
in the right direction.
As a student at BHASVIC you will receive a free National
Union of Students card if you wish and the membership of
the Union is open to everyone who attends the college. The
card is recognised on a national basis with discounts being
offers at large stores such as Habitat, HMV, Topman and Topshop.
Brighton students can also use the card to gain discounts
and concessionary prices all over the city, including at
Shakeaway, The Ocean Rooms, The Komedia, Theatre Royal, Brighton
Dome, The Escape Club, Concorde II, The Prodigal, The Event,
The Funky Budda Lounge and at Odeon Cinema on West Street
(Mon-Thurs). Students have really benefited from the BHASVIC
Student Union being affiliated to NUS.
