| What we do
[Welcome] [What
we do] [NUS] [Links]
PRESIDENT
The President acts as the prime representative of the
student union, coordinating all the union activities and
maintaining close links with the college SMT. S/he acts
as a figure head of the Student Union both within the
college and outside the college, being, for example, the
primary contact that works alongside the National Union
of Students. The President works together with the rest
of the union team to make sure the Student Union is run
effectively. |
| VICE-PRESIDENT
The Vice President acts in the Presidents
absence and is importantly someone who supports his
activities and decisions in conjunction with the rest
of the Student Union. S/he acts as another key figurehead
that the students, staff and general public recognise
as representative of the BHASVIC student union and thus
often has to express the union's views on key issues
both in meetings with college staff and outside of the
college with organisations and other contacts.
|
| TREASURER
The Treasurer’s role is vital in
the running of the Student Union as they handle all
aspects of the money and finance that the Student Union
has to deal with, not only to pay for administerial
costs but to paying for college parties and new facilities
for the students. |
| STUDENT SECRETARY
The Secretary’s job is a very important
as they ensure that all our actions are recorded and
that the day to day running of the Student Union is
kept up to date. All the records, minutes and agendas
allow us to constantly review what we have done and
how we may therefore act in the future. |
WELFARE OFFICER
The Welfare Officer supports the other pastoral student
care systems within the college and has to work hard on
raising awareness on the many issues that affect students
today, from finance to drugs and sexual health problems.
Raising awareness and acting on behalf of the students
in improving student welfare within the college is a key
aspect of this job. |
ENTERTAINMENTS OFFICER
The Ents department work hard all year round to keep the
student college social life active and events innovative;
they have to maintain close links with clubs and other
venues and work hard to ensure that all the parties go
well. Furthermore, they act and change the types of events
that take place on the comments of the students. |
| CHARITIES OFFICER
The Charity Officer takes the lead role
in campaigning to raise awareness on issues and raise
more for relevant charities. This role is often difficult,
as the officer has to ensure wide student participation,
as well as combat apathy and getting students to part
with their money. |
| STUDENT GOVERNOR
Both Student Governors are members of
the BHASVIC Governors Corporation and their sole aim
is to ensure that the best interests of the students
are reflected in the decision making processes that
take place at the college’s highest level, this
may in some instances support or conflict with the views
of other members. They also report back on meetings
to the Student Union executive Committee to ensure they
are aware of the decisions that are being made, both
for the short and long term.
The Premises and Finance Governor sits
on both of these committees that carry the same name
and ensures that the student body are represented during
decisions on these two aspects of the college. The Q
& C Governor sits on the Quality and Curriculum
Committee, which looks at the implementation and maintenance
of curriculum changes throughout the college. |
|
COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
The Communications Officer makes sure that the student
body is kept up to date on all the activities of the
Student Union and has to form a communications strategy
for each event to ensure they are a success. Raising
awareness of events is a key role, as it keeps the SU
dynamic and active and so imaginative ways to get a
lot of students interested is of great importance. They
also have to liase with other college and other organisations
the SU have contact with to ensure good community links
are maintained.
|
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFICER
The Equal Opportunities Officer ensures that all students
are treated equally of race, gender, sexuality, disability,
age, ethnic origin, religion, creed or political affiliation
and that the views and opinions of students who suffer
discrimination are reflected throughout the Students'
Union work.
This officer forefronts campaigns on issues to ensure
that every student is treated equally by the college students
and the Students Union and maintains close contacts with
external agencies and organisations that help on such
issues. |
