Taster Day July 2023

To all our Taster Day Year 10 students and their parents, carers and schools: Thank you for attending. We hope you found the event enjoyable and helpful. Our teachers really enjoyed meeting you and all staff said what a pleasure it was to meet you and how great a group of young people you all were – mature and friendly. On the day we were very surprised by the sheer quantity of you who wanted to purchase hot food from our Canteen and Copper Café – this did cause long queues and some late arrivals to the subject sessions after lunch. We did manage to provide everyone who wanted one with a hot or cold meal, so thank you for your understanding at this busy time during the event.

We hope you have a wonderful end to your school year and a great summer break and hope to meet you again during our school talks and at our Open Events in mid-November (please keep an eye on our website for information and sign-up nearer the time).

Oversubscription: It is a shame we were not able to meet the full demand for places. Approximately 1700 young people attend. The Senior Leadership team are reviewing the event to see whether we can increase capacity next time. However, we’d like to reassure those who were unable to attend that schools talks and visits we do, along with the Open Events in mid-November, are an excellent opportunity to visit the campus, meet staff and students, help inform decisions about applying to BHASVIC and help in making course choices.

Arriving on the day without a place: We are sorry that we need to send students home or to their school if they arrive on the day but hadn’t booked a place. The event involves timetabling students into four classes and we need to ensure that these classes are not over-capacity. We also need to have parent/carer permission. It isn’t possible to prepare a timetable on the day for lots of students who didn’t book a place – this is logistically not achievable. We hope that you understand if this applies to you.
