Welcome to Dance A-Level

This isn’t just about dancing; it’s about becoming a versatile and expressive artist.

The A-Level Dance course will challenge you to analyse professional works, explore a range of dance styles, and develop a deep understanding of choreography, performance, and dance history. You’ll learn how to break down movement with precision, interpret meaning, and perform with technical skill and artistic intention.

The course focuses on real-world skills, from creating original choreography and rehearsing for performances to understanding the professional dance industry. You’ll take part in live projects, collaborate with peers, and build a strong portfolio that prepares you for further training or a career in the creative arts.

The Dance Company offers a wide range of exciting performance opportunities and professional experiences, including a Liam Francis performance at Brighton Dome and showcases at Varndean College, Performers of the Future, and Chichester University.

Students benefit from inspiring trips to see leading practitioners such as Hofesh Shechter and Crystal Pite, alongside high-quality workshops with organisations and artists including NYDC, NSCD, Ceyda Tanc, and an ongoing collaboration with LABAN. There is also the opportunity to study Rambert Grades, further developing technical and artistic skills.

Our strong partnership with the National Youth Dance Company (NYDC) continues to thrive; this year we hosted the regional NYDC experience workshops and auditions, attracting 30 young people from feeder schools and the wider community into the BHASVIC environment. This success is reflected at the highest level, with one A2 student selected from over 205 applicants nationwide to join the prestigious company; one of only 30 places awarded.
