Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators Competition Results!
This year, around 15 students from the Languages and Culture department at BHASVIC participated in the sixth annual Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators Competition. The competition is a national event organised by The Queen's College Translation Exchange at the University of Oxford, with over 25,000 students across the UK taking part this year. Students have to translate one text (fiction/non-fiction or a poem). 4 of our students were awarded with a commendation for their translations and this is an extract from the email from the Competition organisers;
“Dear Becky Morgan,
Thank you for submitting entries to the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators. We are delighted to inform you that our judges have commended the following submission(s) from your school:
- Ernie Wakeford – French into English
- Maite Narro Carrasco – Spanish into English
- Vasilisa Sokolova – Russian into English
- Oliver Skinner – Italian into English
Congratulations! Over 25,000 students participated in the competition in 2026, and we judged over 5,400 entries, so this is a fantastic achievement. Our judges also commented on the very high standard of entries this year and remarked that it was extremely hard to choose winners and commendations.“
