BHASVIC Sports Update - November 2026

BHASVIC Sport Celebrates Outstanding Start to 2026-27

The new academic year has begun impressively for BHASVIC Sport, with students achieving success across a wide range of sports and programmes. From national-level athletes balancing elite competition with their studies to academy teams making strong starts in league and cup competitions, the first half of the autumn term has highlighted the talent, commitment and ambition of BHASVIC students.

Supporting Elite Athletes Through TASS

BHASVIC continues to support a growing number of talented athletes through its TASS dual-career programme. Following a successful summer of national and international competition, the college has welcomed a new cohort of student-athletes competing at representative and national level in sports including climbing, athletics, baseball, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, gymnastics and skateboarding. Their dedication to balancing academic studies alongside high-performance sport continues to inspire the wider college community.

Basketball Teams Make Statement Start

The Men's Basketball First Team has enjoyed a dominant opening to the season, securing two convincing victories. Wins over Cardiff & Vale and Cardinal Newman by margins of more than 50 and 60 points respectively have highlighted the strength of one of the most talented squads the college has fielded in recent years.

Several players have already made a significant impact, with Kingsley showing outstanding development, Renya leading from the front, and Caiden producing a series of impressive performances. The team remains unbeaten and is looking forward to greater challenges as the season progresses.

Netball Programme Continues to Grow

The strength of netball at BHASVIC was reflected in this year's trials, with academy numbers increasing from 20 to 23 players. Both academy squads have started the season positively and remain undefeated in competitive play.

The Black Team overcame a difficult opening quarter in their first league fixture against Sackville before responding superbly to secure a 45-27 victory. Meanwhile, the First Team competed strongly in the opening round of the National Schools competition, winning all but two matches to finish third overall behind strong opposition from Hurst and Brighton College.

Adding to the programme's success, one BHASVIC player has been nominated for the AoC Netball Squad.

Rugby Academy's Rapid Rise

The Rugby Academy continues to go from strength to strength, with around 30 students now training regularly each week. A standout moment of the term came with a hard-fought 15-10 victory over defending champions Collyer's, demonstrating the significant progress made by the programme in a short period of time.

Strong links with Hove Rugby Club and dedicated coaching support have helped establish rugby as one of the college's fastest-growing performance programmes.

Football Teams Enjoy Strong Starts

The Men's Football First Team remains unbeaten and has successfully progressed to the third round of the National Cup after winning its opening two fixtures. The team also reached the final of the AoC Regional 7-a-Side Tournament, narrowly missing out on the title after a penalty shootout defeat.

The Second Team has also impressed, producing strong performances against Newman and Varndean while providing valuable opportunities for first-year students making their academy debuts.

In Women's Football, five BHASVIC students have earned selection for England Colleges trials, highlighting the quality within the programme. The Premier 1 squad remains unbeaten and sits top of the AoC Tier 1 League after four matches. Across the programme, 38 players are currently involved and aiming to build on an excellent start to the season.

Volleyball Success on Sand and Court

Volleyball students have enjoyed an exciting opening to the beach season, with several returning from representing England in European competition. New players have also brought enthusiasm and fresh energy to the programme.

The college produced excellent performances at the AoC Regional Tournament, with the men's team winning the Plate competition and the women's squad also delivering a series of strong displays.

Looking Ahead

With unbeaten records, national cup progression, representative honours and growing academy numbers across multiple sports, the first half of the autumn term has provided an excellent platform for continued success. BHASVIC's students have demonstrated not only sporting excellence but also the dedication, resilience and teamwork that underpin the college's thriving sporting culture.
