BHASVIC's Participation in the Royal Society of Chemistry's Schools Analyst Competition
Recently, 24 of our first-year students took part in the annual Royal Society of Chemistry's Schools Analyst Competition. Based on a fictitious but plausible forensic problem (this year it was a murder!), they use a range of advanced chemical techniques to nail the "perpetrator "and assist the police with their enquiries! We used thin layer chromatography and redox titrations to link evidence based on innocuous personal items like lipstick, hand cream and coffee found at the "murder scene" to empirical conclusions as to who was (or wasn't) there out of the "suspects"!
