Debate Competition Success!

Two first-year BHASVIC debaters, Logan Burch and Sophie White, competed in the finals day of the Oxford Schools Debating Competition, which took place at the Oxford Union and other university venues. This really is a world championship of British Parliamentary Debating for senior schools and sixth-form age students, with teams flying in from Australia, Canada, China, Dubai, India, South Korea, Vietnam, and all over Europe to join British schools and sixth-form colleges.

Longan and Sophie engaged in four tough debates, performing well and qualifying for the 'Novice Final', which consisted of the top four teams who had only started debating in the last year. There were 40+ novice teams in all. After a tough final, against teams from London, India and Australia, Logan and Sophie emerged worthy winners, taking home the title of 'Novice Champions.' Their debating skills were consistently high throughout the day, and they coped with the pressure of five debates admirably, representing BHASVIC superbly. It was hard to believe that they had only started competitive debating in the Autumn term.
