German VR Experience
Towards the end of last term, our German A-level students were “transported” to southern Germany in an immersive 360⁰ virtual reality journey to experience the traditional food, sights and traditions in Bavaria.
External company www.allabroadbus.org came to College and, with a live stream of Bavaria in the background, students travelled by train around southern Germany equipped with a VR headset! Once immersed, they were able to “go sightseeing” visiting Munich and famous landmarks such as Neuschwanstein Castle, all the while listening to the dialogue in German through navigating transport, sightseeing or shopping for food and souvenirs. Once the virtual tour had concluded, students made their way around a carousel of activities, including writing a travel blog, souvenir shopping and food tasting. This gave them a great opportunity to practice their own German conversational skills through role-play and to taste and experience delicious Bavarian classics, such as Brezeln, Weiβwurst and traditional Bavarian sweet mustard!
