Youth Ambassadors Champion Online Safety
A group of BHASVIC students — Jem, Sophia, and Elisha (pictured left to right) — have delivered online safety sessions to over 190 Year 6 pupils as part of the Breck Foundation’s Youth Ambassador Project.
The initiative, funded by Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne, brings together over 30 young people across the county to raise awareness of online harms. Led by the Breck Foundation — a UK-wide charity founded in memory of 14-year-old Breck Bednar, who was tragically groomed and murdered online — the project empowers young ambassadors to educate children on staying safe in digital spaces.
Giselle Wild, Project Coordinator at the Breck Foundation, praised the students’ impact:
These three related to the Year 6 pupils with such warmth, authority and kindness, and created a really lovely atmosphere in their sessions. They provided the pupils really good quality tools to keep themselves safe, and gave as much energy to the first session as they did the 18th!
Jem also reflected on their role as a senior ambassador:
It’s important to be part of this project because we’ve grown up with technology and online spaces. That helps us understand the challenges young people face and makes our support more relevant.
A huge congratulations to Jem, Sophia, and Elisha for championing such a vital and timely issue - your work is making a real difference.
