Young Carers at BHASVIC
At BHASVIC, we recognise the important role that young carers play at home and the unique pressures they may face alongside their studies. Some of our students help to support a family member or someone close to them due to disability, illness, mental health needs, addiction, or other challenges — and we are committed to ensuring they feel understood, valued and supported throughout their time with us.
Our dedicated Young Carer Coordinator works closely with teaching, and guidance staff to provide support, including flexibility with academic commitments and attendance where possible. Personal tutors can provide regular check-ins. We also work in partnership with external young carer services across Brighton, East Sussex and West Sussex, and can make referrals where additional specialist support would be beneficial.
We want every young carer at BHASVIC to thrive, feel safe, and achieve their ambitions. If you are a parent, carer, or professional working with a young person who may benefit from extra support, please get in touch with our Young Carer Coordinator, Lucy Foss (l.foss@bhasvic.ac.uk) to discuss how we can help.
