BTEC Music Fundraising Gig for The Martlets

Our Music BTEC Year 1 students put on their first performance this year on the evening of the 10th December as part of their ‘Pop Music in Practice’ coursework. The students had to research 5 different genres of Pop music and then to perform stylistic cover versions as well as compose original songs in the genres they have studied. The five genres studied this term are; Folk music, Rock n Roll, Punk Rock, Synth Pop and Contemporary RnB. One of the bands chose to cover Ever Fallen in Love with Someone by the Buzzcocks which was a fitting tribute to their singer, Pete Shelley. The Music students wanted to use their performance to raise money for the Martlets, a local charity providing care for people living through a terminal illness in and around Brighton and Hove, to which they donated all of their ticket sales. Some of our Business BTEC Level 3 Diploma students, as part of their ‘Managing a Business Event’ coursework, marketed and ran the front-of-house operation for the gig, which included refreshments and a raffle with all proceeds going to Martlets. The gig was a sell out and we are delighted to announce that the students raised a grand total of £365.44 for this amazing local charity!
