What will I study?

This new course offers students the opportunity to further their study of Biology but with a different approach to the traditional A level route. Students will study units in human physiology, anatomy and pathology, health and disease, genetics, biomedical techniques and optional units in nutrition and metabolism and human reproduction. Students will learn practical and investigation skills that build on this fundamental knowledge.

Is this course right for me?

This course is designed for students who enjoy Biology and want to deepen their understanding of how the human body works, and gain an insight into the pathology, diagnosis and treatment options of common diseases. It pairs well with A Levels such as Psychology, Physical Education and Chemistry, and BTECs in Health and Social Care and Sport. The course can be taken alongside A Level Biology although students should note that there is a lot of overlap in content.

Where next?

This course has been designed as a progression route into Biological Sciences and Biomedical Sciences degrees. It also provides progression into most Nursing and Physiotherapy degrees. It prepares students well for Apprenticeships within the NHS and other clinical healthcare settings. The lab skills developed during the course could also lead on to careers in laboratory settings.
