Brighton & Hove Citizens Manifesto launch

On Friday 17 March BHASVIC students and staff took part in the Brighton & Hove Citizens Manifesto launch at the Brighton Town Hall Council Chambers. BHASVIC is a founding member of the Brighton & Hove alliance of Citizens UK - a community organising group that aims to make positive change - and over the last year our Student Union has taken a lead on a citywide campaign to address transport issues across the city including the cost and feeling of safety on transport networks.

The event was co-chaired by BHASVIC student Merit, with representatives from local schools, colleges, universities and faith organisations were invited to speak passionately about mental health, living wage, housing and safer spaces whilst BHASVIC's Student President Sachin and Student Governor Raphaella presented their statements on transport to an enthusiastic audience. After taking us through the active campaigns and significant victories already achieved, Council Members and MPs signed a pledge to continue working together on these issues and more to create a better, fairer Brighton & Hove. You can watch a BBC South Today news report on the event here

We are immensely proud of our students for and delighted to be working together with so many other brilliant organisations across the city. The next step for the transport campaign will be a Citizens Assembly at Varndean College, 4.30pm - 6.30pm on Wednesday 29 March.
