Carbon Literacy Awards – Congratulations to our students!

Almost 200 students were awarded the Carbon Literacy Award this term, learning about the science behind climate change and making personal and group pledges to take action.  Some of our Climate Change Society members received their certificates from Will on the roof of Elms Building and also heard from our Estates Manager, Lester Grice, about how the solar panels on the roof generate most of Elms’ electricity and how he manages the Passiv structure.

Our DfE-funded Greener Sussex project is coming to an end with BHASVIC leading all eight Sussex colleges through the Carbon Literacy work, building the foundations for individuals to understand the science behind climate change and the need for sustainability to complement their courses, learning and skills development.  During the project, over 1,000 students across Sussex were certified as Carbon Literate and teachers are embedding sustainability and carbon literacy into a wide range of courses, including Music, Psychology, STEM and History.
