Women's Winter Box Cup 2019

Second year BHASVIC student Gemma Creamer completed a women’s international box cup tournament in December which was broadcasted live on BBC SPORT - wind forward to around 1 hour 33 minutes to find Gemma in blue corner, dressed in black under name of Gemma Edwards). On this occasion Gemma unfortunately didn’t get the win, so her record now stands as 2 wins and 1 loss. To summarise her last fight, she missed her weight category by 1kg and ended up in the one above where her opponent came in at 75kg whilst Gemma weighed in at 69kg. As Gemma said herself: “Not good at all. But .... success can never be felt in its entirety without failure. It was definitely a lesson learnt for my next fight.
Aside from my love for boxing I have high aspirations to become a barrister.”

Managing both boxing (a very time consuming sport), my academic studies and part time jobs all at once is tough – Gemma’s tutors are impressed that she has managed to meet each college deadline that was set. Gemma found: “preparing for championships as well as meeting UCAS deadlines very stressful as I’m sure you can imagine. At the start of December, I finally sent off all my applications to my university choices. One day later I have received a conditional offer from Greenwich to study Law and an unconditional offer for London Southbank. I am now waiting to hear back from Kings, Sussex and LSE. I am extremely happy and a little speechless. Just shows how hard work and dedication really does all pay off in the end.”
